BELVOIR CASTLE

Burgley House

Wow, what a wonderful opportunity to visit all these historic places and with my own tour guide. We left Wednesday, August 1st for Northern England about 300 miles from the base. We stopped on the way to see Burghley Hall where "Pride and Prejudice" was filmed. It was the most beautiful hall I have seen to date. Besides the beautiful art which is pretty standard for all the stately homes and castles, it had painted ceilings that were absolutely breathtaking! We also stopped for a visit to Belvoir Castle (the English could not pronounce the French word so they called it beaver castle. And then our journey took us to Slaley Hall, a manor that has been turned into a resort. I got to experience my first "Full English Breakfast" the next morning. An array of very thick bacon, very fat breakfast sausages, baked beans, tomatoes, sauteed mushrooms, fried eggs, fried potatoes and of course, sweets. It is amazing that the majority of the Brits are NOT overweight!
